Get To Know Derek

Derek graduated with an undergraduate degree in Accounting and a Masters in Accountancy from Wright State University. While attending Wright State University, Derek was involved with the Accounting Club. Derek joined the FHF team when Nolan Giere & Company and FHF merged in 2021.  Derek spent eight years with Nolan Giere clients, joining the firm as a staff accountant in the summer of 2013, receiving his CPA certification in March 2016, promoted to supervisor in 2016 and manager in 2019. Derek works in tax planning, financial statement preparation, personal and corporate tax preparation as well as providing consulting services.

Derek loves making an impact on his clients and helping their businesses succeed. Regarding the merge with FHF, he says, “I’m looking forward to providing our clients with additional tax and accounting services that we didn’t previously offer as Nolan Giere & Company. With the expanded services, I believe that our staff can explore their passions in additional areas of tax and accounting to continue to learn and grow, which is such a great opportunity.”

When Derek isn’t busy helping his clients, he serves as a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Troy Rotary Club, a graduate of the 2016 Leadership Troy class and recipient of the 2016/2017 Troy Rotary Charlie Doyle Service Award. Derek also serves as treasurer for Isaiah’s Place.

During his time off, Derek enjoys spending time with his three daughters and wife in their camper. Derek’s family has visited numerous different campgrounds in the past two years, enjoying nature and spending quality time with family.
